Talbot County Farm Bureau Ambassador Contest

Introducing the all-new Talbot County Farm Bureau Ambassador program! We are seeking applicants for Junior, ages 13-16 years old, and County Ambassador, ages 17-21 years old, as of July 1st. The Talbot County Farm Bureau (TCFB) Ambassador Program provides an opportunity for young leaders to represent agriculture and Farm Bureau for one year (July 2024 – June 2025). One male and one female applicant will be selected as the Talbot County Farm Bureau Junior and County Ag Ambassadors at the 2024 Talbot County  Fair. Each Ag Ambassador is eligible to receive a $500 educational scholarship provided by the Talbot County Farm Bureau. The Junior and County Ag Ambassadors will make selected appearances throughout their term on behalf of agriculture and Farm Bureau.

Appearances may include but are not limited to: 

  • Talbot County Farm Bureau Membership Banquet (March 2025)

  • Talbot County Fair (July 2024)

  • Talbot County Farm Bureau Legislative Tour (2024)

  • Talbot County Farm Bureau Picnic (August 2024)

  • Talbot County Fall Fair (October 2024)

Ambassadors will also be asked to participate in social media promotion of Talbot County Agriculture, promote Agriculture Education & Advocacy at county, regional and state events as available.

The contest consists of four parts:

1.     Application - 40 points (Due July 10, 2024)

The application will be scored for completeness, depth of experience, and participation in agriculture related activities.

2.     Interview - 40 points (Held on July 15, time TBD)

Applicants will complete a 10-minute interview. The purpose of the interview is to give applicants professional learning experience and for the judges to learn more about the applicant and their interest and ideas in serving as an AG Ambassador.

3.     On-Stage Introduction - 10 points (Held on July 15 at 5pm, Collier Pavilion)

The contest will conclude with applicants introducing themselves with a 60-90 second introduction of themselves and why they want to be a Talbot County Ag Ambassador

4.     On-Stage Question - 10 points (Held on July 15 at 5pm, Collier Pavilion)

Applicants will each be asked a question based on their resume. This is to practice public speaking and conversation skills.

Applications are due July 10th. The contest will be held on July 15, 2024, at 5pm at the Talbot County Fair.

2024 TALBOT COUNTY FARM BUREAU SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION

The Talbot County Farm Bureau will offer scholarships for the fall of 2024.

To be eligible you must be:

  • Applicant or their parents/guardians must be members of Talbot County Farm Bureau

  • Applicant must be a graduating high school senior or presently enrolled full time in a college, university, or tech school

  • Applicant must use the scholarship funds to attend, or continue attending a two or four year college or technical school on a full-time basis

  • Previous scholarship recipients may reapply however; no applicant may receive the scholarship more than twice

To help increase the public's understanding of Maryland agriculture, Maryland Public Television (MPT) in partnership with the Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA) is producing Maryland Farm & Harvest, a new series that will put a human face on farming, educate viewers about agriculture, and tell the stories of the industry that built this nation and continues to feed the world.
